Using a quick estimate
Using a quick estimate to compare energy plans
If you just want a fast, simple comparison, you can get started with a quick estimate.
Instead of using your actual bill or usage data, this option lets you choose a basic household usage profile that best matches your home. We then use that to estimate what different plans might cost you over a year.
How the quick estimate works
1. Choose a usage profile
- Low usage : for example a typical 1 person home
- Medium usage : for example, a typical 2-3 person home
- High usage : for example, a typical 4 person home
- Very high usage : for example, a typical 4+ person home
Each option represents an average daily usage range, based on typical household sizes and energy consumption patterns.
2. Model usage and calculated estimated plan costs
Once selected, we:
- Convert the daily average into an estimated annual usage
- Apply seasonal modelling, so usage is higher in winter and summer and lower in shoulder seasons
- Calculate estimated annual costs for each plan on our platform
How accurate is a quick estimate?
A quick estimate is more accurate than reference prices, but is less accurate than bill upload or connecting via CDR. Quick estimate isn't based on your actual usage, so it can't account for things like time-of-use behaviour, solar generation or export, or recent changes to how you use energy.
It’s designed for speed and simplicity, not precision.
For the most accurate estimated costs based on your real usage, we'd recommend connecting to your provider via CDR, followed by bill upload.
