Uploading a bill or entering bill details
Using a bill upload or manual entry to improve your estimate
Most comparison sites rely on reference prices or broad averages. Reference prices assume an “average” household - but most households aren’t average.
That can be wildly inaccurate if you:
- Use more power at night
- Work from home
- Have solar
- Have (or could benefit from) time-of-use pricing
- Have higher or lower usage than the “average” household
If connecting via Consumer Data Right (CDR) isn't right for you, you can still get a more personalised energy estimate by uploading a recent bill or entering your bill details manually.
Both options work in a very similar way - the goal is simply to use your real usage data (instead of averages) to calculate more accurate results.
Option 1: Upload a bill (recommended if you have one handy)
Uploading a bill is the easiest way to get started if you have a recent electricity bill.
How it works
1. Upload your bill- Upload or drag and drop a PDF, JPG or PNG
- Screenshots are fine, as long as they include the usage section.
- Currently, only 1 file upload is supported
- Our system uses AI to extract the bill period (start and end dates) and usage amounts (peak, off-peak, shoulder, solar export, etc.)
- We only extract the information needed for your estimate
- You review and confirm the extracted details pre-filled for you
- Once confirmed, the usage data is passed to our comparison engine and we calculate estimated costs based on that bill period
- The original bill file is permanently deleted once the data is extracted.
We will never use bill data to train AI models, access your energy account or access payment details.
Option 2: Manually enter bill details
If you don’t have a bill file handy, you can enter the details yourself.
What you’ll need to enter
- Bill start and end dates
- Usage amounts from your bill (e.g. peak, off-peak, shoulder, solar export)
Once submitted, the data is used in exactly the same way as a bill upload — to calculate estimated costs for that billing period.
How accurate is this compared to CDR?
Bill upload and manual entry are more accurate than quick estimates or reference prices, but usually less accurate than CDR, because they're based on a shorter snapshot of time. Your usage during winter may be very different than your usage during spring or summer.
That said, it's still a great option if CDR isn't available for your address or if you prefer not to connect via CDR.
